Vmware Client Failed To Install Hcmon Driver Windows 10

When installing the latest vSphere Client 6.0 on my Windows 10 computer, I got the following error “VMInstallHcmon – Failed to install hcmon driver”

  1. Vmware Client Failed To Install Hcmon Driver Windows 10 32-bit
  2. Vmware Client Failed To Install Hcmon Driver Windows 10 Bootable
  3. Vmware Client Failed To Install Hcmon Driver Windows 10 Pro
  4. Vmware Client Failed To Install Hcmon Driver Windows 10 64-bit

Vsphere client 5.5 fails to install the hcmon driver (.SOLVED.). Home/VMware/ VIX Library Failed with gethosthandle. Windows 10 Application Installed. Any user can install VMware Tools in a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows ME guest operating system. For operating systems later than these, you must log in as an administrator. If you use vSphere and plan to install the Guest Introspection Thin Agent driver, see the system requirements listed in the vShield Quick Start Guide.

  • VMInstallHcmon - Failed to install hcmon driver. Cause This issue occurs if the vSphere Client is installed on the same system the VMRC installation is failing on. Nov 15, 2016 The second link fixed the installation issue! Had to uninstall the hcmon driver and rename hcmon.sys to hcmon.sys.old.
  • Launch Windows PowerShell as Administrator; Change directory to the folder where the VMware-VMRC-xxx.msi is located; Execute.

Troubleshooting

  • Try KB2006486. But I don’t see Non-Plug and Play Drivers and VMware hcmon on my Windows 10 computer
  • Try renaming the C:WindowsSystem32drivershcmon.sys file. Still get the same error

Solution

  • On my laptop, vSphere Client 5.5 and 6.0 (older build), and their respective Update Manager plug-in are installed
  • Remove these older clients and plug-ins
  • vSphere Client 6.0 installation completes successfully

Hello,

Failed

This seems to be my last resort in solving this problem, I hope someone has had this issue before and can provide a new direction into solving this.

Scenario: had an upgrade from 6.7 U1 to 6.7 U3, so took the time to install the latest remote console software (worked fine).

I couldn’t establish a session to my VM’s anymore (due to an SSL issue).

In trying to understand and solve that issue, I uninstalled my vmware software (as far as I remember, only the remote console was installed).

Vmware Client Failed To Install Hcmon Driver Windows 10 32-bit

Vmware client failed to install hcmon driver windows 10 bootable

Ever since, I’m unable to reinstall the software.

This is the error:

Vmware client failed to install hcmon driver windows 10 32-bit

VMInstallHcmon

Bootable

Failed to install the hcmon driver

Now I’ve come across several simple things that should help me, but it didn’t:

Driver
  • remove vsphere client, install remote console and reinstall vsphere client
  • install with extra admin priviliges
  • Do a register workaround (enable HCmon, install, remove regkey)

Vmware Client Failed To Install Hcmon Driver Windows 10 Bootable

I was unfamiliar with the hcmon.sys file before this issue started. From what I learned, this should be provided by the OS under the System32 < drivers folder.

Vmware Client Failed To Install Hcmon Driver Windows 10 Pro

It seems this one is missing on my device, but I’m unsure if it should be there (I also read a hcmon.sys file is being installed through the remote console installation).

Vmware Client Failed To Install Hcmon Driver Windows 10 64-bit

To be sure, I’ve cleaned up the registry (ccleaner) and ran a sfc /scannow, which succeeded without errors.

If anyone has any other recommendation, I’d be open to it.
